Mitsubishi Heavy Industries collaborates with Italy's Saipem on licensing CO2 capture technology.

News 2023/5/8: Leading the creation of the CCUS (Carbon Dioxide Capture, Utilization, and Storage) market through the conclusion of a comprehensive licensing agreement.

◆Collaboration with Saipem on CO2 Capture Technology On April 27, 2023, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Mitsubishi Heavy) announced that it has signed a comprehensive licensing agreement regarding CO2 capture technology with Saipem, a major engineering company based in Italy. This move aims to lead the creation of a global market for carbon dioxide capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) in pursuit of achieving carbon neutrality. ◆CO2 Capture Technology Co-Developed with Kansai Electric Power The technologies that Mitsubishi Heavy will license to Saipem are the "KM CDR Process(TM)" and "Advanced KM CDR Process(TM)," both of which were co-developed with Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. since 1990. By partnering with Saipem, which has operations in over 70 countries and specializes in the design, procurement, construction, and project management of plants primarily in the oil and gas sector, Mitsubishi Heavy will enhance the promotion of CO2 capture plants in key business areas and regions, particularly in Europe and the Middle East, enabling the handling of numerous projects. By establishing a plant construction execution system that leverages the strengths of both companies, Mitsubishi Heavy will further advance its global CCUS strategy.

DAC (Direct Air Capture)

Web-based research report on trends in "Technology and Companies" from patent information.

■ A Dynamic Map that Provides an Overview of Technology and Companies This dynamic map is an electronic patent investigation report that allows users to view the results of patent information related to the title theme technology from two axes: the "technology side," categorized by technology classification, and the "company side," featuring the top 10 applicants. ■ Target Technology DAC (Direct Air Capture) is a technology that separates and captures carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from the atmosphere. To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, DAC, which captures CO2 directly from the air, is gaining attention as a negative emission technology. It has the potential to be utilized sustainably, such as by using the captured CO2 as a resource. The focus is on technologies that use solid or liquid absorbents/adsorbents for separation and recovery, membrane separation technologies, and other methods. This includes absorbents/adsorbents for separation and recovery, separation membranes, processes, and equipment. ■ Technology Classification ◆ Separation Methods 〇 Solid Adsorbents 〇 Liquid Absorbents 〇 Adsorbents (details unknown) 〇 Selective Permeable Membranes 〇 Pressure & Cooling 〇 Others ◆ Equipment & Systems 〇 Recovery Equipment & Systems 〇 Recovery Methods & Processes ◆ Applications 〇 Applications & Uses
